Comcast Ron Poole captures 2010 SCTE International Cable Games title

Representing SCTE Golden Gate Chapter, Ron Poole of Comcast outpaced a field of 28 competitors and captured the 20th Annual SCTE International Cable-Tec Games overall title. Sponsored by CommScope and the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE), the International Games comprised competitors from across Canada and States who had qualified to compete after winning their local competitions.

SCTE conducts the games—where competitors demonstrate workmanship,
refined skills and proper technique—each year as part of Cable-Tec Expo,
SCTE’s flagship event.

Bob Colwell of Comcast (New England Chapter) took 2nd overall. Meantime,
Keith Jensen of Cablevision (New Jersey Chapter) achieved 3rd overall.

The 1st Place winners of the International Games’ seven contests were:

• Meter Reading: Greg Brakefield of Comporium (Rock Hill, S.C.).
• MTDR: Michael Carson of Time Warner (Corpus Christi, Texas).
• Fiber Splicing: Conrad Bombardier of Charter (Lonsdale, Minn.).
• Cable Splicing: Bob Colwell.
• Drop Connection: Keith Jensen.
• Cable Jeopardy: Bob Fuller of Comcast (Lowell, Mass.)
• OTDR: Jim Egloff of Insight (Cincinnati, Ohio).

The hosts of the evening’s seven contests were: AFL Telecommunications;
CommScope; Corning Cable Systems; Corning Gilbert Inc.; Exfo; Greenlee;
JDSU; Jones/NCTI; PPC; Radiodetection; Thomas & Betts; Times Fiber
Amphenol; and Trilithic.
