EBMag extends a heartfelt congratulations to our friends at United Wire & Cable, which is celebrating 25 years in the industry. United is a Canadian-owned company based in Toronto, serving electrical wire and cable customers on a global basis. The company operates as a full line supplier of insulated power, control and instrumentation cables, fiber optic cables, bare overhead wire, and custom-designed cables.
Many of the company’s engineering team members pioneered the first
length of solid dielectric cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulated
cable, which was produced and installed in Canada in 1963 for a 600V
application. In May of 1990, another milestone was reached: United Wire
& Cable successfully completed a turnkey project for Ontario Hydro,
Toronto, Leaside T.S., by supplying and installing the first online
230kV solid dielectric (XLPE) insulated power cable in North America.
