CSA’s M421 sets out the safety requirements for installation and maintenance of electrical equipment used in mines, quarries, and oil sands. It adds that the edition is designed to be used in conjunction with the Canadian Electrical Code. In this edition, new provisions have been made for portable and movable generators, portable power cables, grounding in permafrost environments, lightning protection of overhead lines, and electrical equipment installed around ammonium nitrate fuel oil (ANFO) magazines. Reference has been made to recent standards on Control of Hazardous Energy (CSA Z460) and Workplace Electrical Safety (Z462).
