April 17, 2023 – At the 47th meeting of the IEC TC20 WG19, Dr. George Anders was acknowledged for his dedicated Working Group attendance of nearly four decades!

“It is quite remarkable that George volunteered his time and was able to attend every WG19 meeting in-person for the last 39 years,” said Roberto Gaspari, meeting convenor. “This is truly an incredible achievement!”

The scope of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Technical Committee (TC) 20 is “Electric cables”.

Specifically, “To prepare international standards for the design, testing and end-use recommendations (including current ratings) for insulated electrical power and control cables, their accessories and cable systems, for use in wiring and in power generation, distribution and transmission”.

Working Group (WG) 19, meantime, focuses on “Current rating and short-circuit limits of cables”.

In 2007, Anders was a recipient of the 1906 IEC Award, which is granted “in recognition of exceptional recent individual achievements—a project or other specific contribution—which helped advance IEC activities in a significant way”.

The last in-person WG19 meeting occurred in November 2019 in Italy, before the pandemic. This return to in-person meeting was hosted in-person by Electro-Federation Canada, and coordinated by Gaspari, Nexans, Northern Cables, and the Standards Council of Canada.

The next meeting of IEC TC20 WG19 is scheduled for November 6, 2023, in Vienna, Austria.
