September 22, 2011 – EBMag was there as BICSI—an association supporting the information technology systems (ITS) industry—opened its 2011 Fall Conference & Exhibition morning this week. Thousands of industry professionals gathered at the MGM Grand Hotel & Convention Center in Las Vegas for the start of three days of education, networking and technical presentations.

“This conference promises to be one of the best in recent years,” said BICSI president Brian Hansen, who also encouraged attendees to apply for BICSI’s new Registered Information Technology Professional (RITP) credential.

The Opening General Session included presentations on MasterFormat Division 27 specifications and standards, helping the A/E design team understand the needs of ITS design, non-compliant cabling products, 40 Gbps twisted-pair ethernet, and BIM (building information modelling).

The conference was attended by international guests from 29 countries, including Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Nigeria, Korea and Taiwan. “This is a very international conference and I’ve been able to establish face-to-face contact with my international peers,” said Gilberto Ferreira Ruiz of GFR Telecomunicaciones, S.A. de C.V. in Mexico.

Exhibitors say they have been pleased with the turnout in the exhibit hall. “We’re doing very well! I like this show because there are a lot of contractors visiting my booth,” said Steven Reimert of Precision Rated Optics. “We like talking directly with the contractors because they are where it all begins.”
