Delta 11kW booster now has 1kV DC input thanks to Cree SiC MOSFET

April 17, 2013 | By Anthony Capkun

April 17, 2013 – Cree Inc. and Delta Energy Systems boast they’ve made a “breakthrough in the photovoltaic inverter industry” with Delta’s new generation of solar inverters, which employ SiC power MOSFETs (metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors) from Cree, and promise “significant new milestones” in power density, efficiency and weight. Utilizing 1200V SiC MOSFETs from Cree in an 11kW PV inverter, Delta says it has already been able to extend the DC input voltage range while maintaining—and even increasing—the maximum efficiency of its previous products. The Delta 11kW booster now has 1kV DC input instead of 900V, and is targeted for release this quarter 2013.
