Diversified introducing DTI PowerMod MVDC circuit breaker modules

April 16, 2013 | By Anthony Capkun

April 16, 2013 – Diversified Technologies is introducing compact, solid-state medium-voltage DC (MVDC) circuit breakers for use in commercial microgrids and military DC power distribution systems. The DTI PowerMod solid-state MVDC circuit breaker modules open in <700 ns, says the company, providing load protection in medium- to high-voltage DC power distribution systems (>3kV) in the event of a fault. Boasting >99.7% switching efficiency, these modules can also switch power around a fault for high uptime applications, says Diversified, such as maintaining power levels in a microgrid. Capable of supporting a range of alternative sources and storage systems (e.g. wind and solar, battery storage and flywheels, with a range of voltages, frequencies and power levels), the circuit breaker modules operate fully On or fully Off. At 10kV, a 50A DC module measures 12 x 5 x 3-in., and is stackable for switching up to 100kV.
