Christy Morrison named president, Electrical Cable Supply

Electrical Cable Supply (ECS), an independently owned provider of electrical wire and cable based in Richmond, B.C., has appointed Christy Morrison as president. Morrison’s wire and cable career actually began with ECS in 1995, where she spent 17 years in various roles. In 2012, she joined Wesco’s Canadian head office in Markham, Ont., as supplier relations manager for wire, cable, and datacom. “Christy’s addition to the team will be pivotal for the future growth and continued success of ECS across Canada,” said Hossein Mohseni, COO.

Jobber awards $150K in grants to 25 home service entrepreneurs

Jobber—a provider of operations management software for home service businesses—recently awarded $150,000 (collectively) to the recipients of its third annual Jobber Grants program. 25 entrepreneurs were selected from thousands of applications and rewarded with funds ranging from $5000 US to $15,000 US, says Jobber, “to help accelerate the growth of their home service businesses and shine a light on their community impact”.

Forerunner in liquid cooling, Hithium supplies first totally liquid-cooled plant

Stationary battery manufacturer Hithium’s 300Ah cell-based modules feature the company’s proprietary immersion liquid-cooling technology. The first power station to be entirely supplied with liquid-cooling battery products features Hithium’s technology, with the manufacturer serving as core provider for the 140MWh plant in China’s Guangdong Province. Hithium’s 300Ah cell broke ground with its 12,000 cycle life and <2% degradation in the first 1000 cycles.

The company has also increased the intrinsic safety of LFP battery technology, developing its own proprietary LFP with lattice doping that achieves a higher capacity and lowered internal resistance of the cell.

Residential construction investment continues to erode

Investment in building construction declined 2.6% to $17.5 billion in July 2023, reports Statistics Canada. The non-residential sector was up 0.5% to $5.9 billion, while the residential sector decreased 4.1% to $11.5 billion. Single-family home construction investment declined 5.5% to $5.8 billion, the lowest level since August 2020, while multi-unit construction investment was down 2.8% to $5.7 billion—the ninth consecutive monthly decrease. » Read more

Showing off their first all-electric bucket trucks: Alectra and Toronto Hydro

Alectra Utilities has added an International eMV all-electric double bucket truck to its fleet, which will be used by powerline technicians in day-to-day overhead line maintenance operations. “The addition of our first fully electric bucket truck marks a significant step toward electrification,” said Chris Hudson, Alectra. Meantime, Toronto Hydro has also added a fully electric bucket truck to its fleet—a first for that LDC, too. The truck joins the utility’s 13 electric vehicles and 53 hybrid vehicles. » Read more
