ECABC concerned with Bill 23, Workers’ Compensation Amendment Act, 2020

July 31, 2020 – Electrical Contractors Assoc. of British Columbia is concerned with Bill 23 “Workers’ Compensation Amendment Act, 2020”, saying it has the potential “to add substantial costs to the workers’ compensation system, which would inevitably result in increased employer premiums paid by our members”.

Bill 23 was tabled in the legislature on July 14.

Deborah Cahill, ECABC president, contacted B.C. Labour Minister Harry Bains with a letter voicing her members’ concerns, adding that “Now is not an appropriate time to be increasing costs on businesses”.

“ECABC joins British Columbia’s business community in urging for reconsideration of this legislation, so that employers can focus on getting workers safely back to work and rebuilding our province’s economy,” added Cahill.
