Eclipsall and Sagamok Anishnawbek partner for solar energy projects

June 22, 2012 | By Alyssa Dalton

June 22, 2012 – Eclipsall Energy Group and the Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation have signed a joint venture agreement where the two will work collaboratively to plan the development and implementation of solar energy projects within Sagamok Anishnawbek.

Both parties say they are looking to develop and implement photovoltaic (PV) projects immediately with a longer-term objective of sustainable, renewable energy deployment in Sagamok Anishnawbek.

A consideration of the agreement is the creation of longterm employment and to ensure long term sustainability of the projects through hands on training in solar PV operations and technology, says Eclipsall.

Paul Eshkakogan, chief of the Sagamok Anishnawbek, says: “Our community has made a commitment to sustainable development and in particular to solar energy. We are pleased to make Eclipsall a trusted partner in our pursuit and realization of this objective.”

Working in collaboration, Eclipsall and the Sagamok Anishnawbek will also develop and implement solar PV projects within other First Nations communities.

“Ontario has the largest concentration of First Nation communities in Canada. It’s been our hope to work closely with First Nations communities and assist them in identifying and implementing their solar energy strategies,” says Les Lyster, CEO of Eclipsall. “The agreement with Sagamok Anishnawbek is an important first step in that direction.”
