Electro-Federation Canada (EFC) has appointed Suzanne Alfano to the position of Electrical Council Sections Manager, effective April 4, 2011.

“As we transition two separate EFC entities—the Supply & Distribution (S&D) and EEMAC Councils—into one joint group: the Electrical Council, there is a strong need for a leader who will take charge of all electrical product section meetings to ensure manufacturer members’ interests and requirements are addressed,” said Jim Taggart, president & CEO, EFC. “Suzanne will play an integral role in bridging together the two councils by providing ongoing facilitation and leadership to the 16 active product sections that are currently part of the EEMAC Council, which will become part of the new Electrical Council in June.”

The Electrical Council is set to debut this June at the S&D Conference in Quebec City.

Alfano will report directly to Rick McCarten, VP S&D. “Suzanne has strong leadership experience in the electrical industry, particularly in the area of codes and standards for electrical safety and sustainability. This expertise will be of tremendous benefit to manufacturer members as we grow our presence in these important industry areas. I welcome Suzanne to the team and look forward to working closely with her to further develop programs for Electrical Council members,” said McCarten.

In her role, Alfano will help direct each section’s industry sector position in the Canadian electrical market in the areas of sustainability, government and regulatory relationships and influence, product design and manufacturing safety, market research/statistics, communications, industry networking, and codes and standards development. She will help recommend and implement strategies to expand membership to enhance EFC’s position as the industry association representing the entire electrical industry in Canada. She will also liaise with internal staff to ensure the Electrical Council and its sections continue to obtain the effective services offered by EFC.

Alfano possesses over 20 years of experience championing the development and coordination of national and North American harmonized standards, says EFC, covering electrical product safety, energy efficiency and renewable energy. Her past work experience includes serving as a consultant at Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) and as a program manager at Canadian Standards Association (CSA). She holds a diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology from Sheridan College and is a member of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT), Ontario Association of Home Inspectors (OAHI) and the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE).

Effective April 4, Alfano can be reached at salfano@electrofed.com and (647) 260-3081.
