October 8, 2013- Integrating renewable energy technologies, including wind and solar, into Canada’s electricity infrastructure can be accelerated by overcoming technical and cost barriers to grid-scale energy storage, says the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), which is why the council announced its Energy Storage for Grid Security and Modernization research program.

June 27, 2013 - Eaton is adding space-saving tower, 1U and 2U rackmount form factors to its 5P uninterruptible power system (UPS) product. The new configurations complement Eaton’s existing 5P portfolio and help IT professionals optimize energy performance in network closet and server room applications through industry leading electrical efficiency up to 99% and Energy Star qualification of select models, says Eaton. Through a graphical display located on the front of all 5P models, users are provided with energy usage information and the ability to customize UPS settings at the push of a button. By integrating the software suite with the 5P, users can manage their entire power infrastructure remotely and directly through virtualization management platforms. The integration enables automatic and transparent live migration of virtual machines (VMs) during power disruptions to unaffected devices, and also provides shutdown of computers, VMs and servers during an extended power outage. The new Eaton 5P tower and rackmount models range from 550VA (420W) to 3000VA (2700W).
June 17, 2013 - GE says its new TLE series Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) with three-level converter technology provides mission-critical facilities with reliable power, while achieving up to 96.5% efficiency. According to GE, the TLE series features an ultra-high efficiency in double-conversion mode which provides significant life cycle cost savings for the data centre industry. For a typical enterprise-class data centre with a 6MW load, the TLE series UPS has the ability to reduce annual energy consumption by more than 2 million kWh, predicts the company.
May 25, 2013 - Mitsubishi Electric Power Products’ DiamondPlus 1100B is a modular, 3-phase, double-conversion online UPS (uninterruptible power supply) that can be configured in 10kVA increments from 10kVA to 80kVA. The 1100B complements the 1100A, says Mitsubishi, which ranges from 10kVA to 50kVA. With a compact footprint and energy efficiency of up to 93.1%, the 1100B’s has fully digital screens and front access, and hot-swappable battery modules.
March 25, 2013 - Schneider Electric Solar Business has launched various for solutions for residential, small commercial and off-grid solar and backup power. The Conext RL is a residential single-phase transformerless solar inverter available in 3kW, 4kW and 5kW power ratings, which boasts peak conversion efficiency of 97.5%. The expanded Conext TL line of inverters now offers 8kW, 108kW, 158kW and 20kW models. The transformerless grid-tie solar inverter is designed for commercial buildings, carports and decentralized power plants up to the MW range. The Conext Monitor 20 is a remote monitoring and control solution for small photovoltaic (PV) plants up to 20kW, allowing PV owners to monitor the operating performance of the inverter using a web portal. The Conext Designer is a PV system design tool where installers can select Conext range of inverters and panels and roof orientation help build designs aimed at maximizing energy harvest. The Conext SW inverter/charger is available in 2.5kW and 4 kW power ratings, and is a pure sine wave, inverter/charger system with switchable 50/60 Hz functionality available for both 120/240VAC or 230VAC models. Meanwhile, the Conext XW inverter/charger is available in 4kW, 4.5kW and 6kW power ratings. Operators of Conext XW and SW systems can remotely monitor yield performance using devices of their choice, such as personal computers, tablet devices, or building management systems using the new Conext ComBox communication device. Installers can change the settings of Conext devices during commissioning and react 24/7 to system alerts remotely.

January 8, 2013 - GE’s Digital Energy business has launched its VH series Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system, which features failsafe bypass for transfer from inverter to bypass if multiple fault conditions occur. The series also offers Double Conversion Technology for transfer from utility to battery power in the event of utility failure. The new UPS features integrated automatic shutdown software, GE’s Superior Battery Management and a range of communication options including USB port as standard, with the option of RS232, relay and SNMP card slots. Additionally, the VH series is up to 50% smaller than GE’s previous GT series, which minimizes the rack or floor space required for installation. GE

December 5, 2012 - Eaton has launched the 9PX uninterruptible power system (UPS) for 5-11kVA applications, claiming to provide about 28% more power than traditional UPSs. The system is best suited for medium-to-high-density IT equipment in computer rooms and small data centres in industrial, manufacturing, medical and telecommunications applications. The 9PX UPS is bundled with a network card and Eaton’s Intelligent Power Software Suite, a power management and protection software.EATON
October 6, 2012 - Rosewater Energy Group says it has developed a solution that enables homeowners to utilize the benefits of renewable energy sources and harness all incoming power to the home—including power from renewables, the grid, and/or auxiliary generators. The new Residential Energy Storage Hub is an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) designed to provide constant power output from various power sources, including solar panels and wind turbines. The unit conditions incoming power and auxiliary power to help protect critical systems including valuable electronics and systems and smart home control technologies, says the company. The hub uses a 10kW/12kWh power quality conversion switchgear that utilizes UPS technology and corrects many common power quality problems that can occur with power from the grid, renewables and back-up generators, it adds. October 5, 2012 - Power-Sonic, a manufacturer of sealed lead-acid batteries, is now introducing the PHR series of High Rate uninterruptible power supplies UPS batteries, designed specifically for the "demanding high rate discharge needs applications of UPS". According to the company, the PHR series ensure system reliability, extended service life, and lower maintenance costs. PHR batteries range from 28 amp.hrs. at 100 wpc to 140 amp.hrs at 500 wpc. August 27, 2012 - Eaton describes its new 5P uninterruptible power system (UPS) as offering industry-leading efficiency for network closets and small data centres. The 5P supports entry-level virtualization strategies through Eaton’s Intelligent Power Software Suite, and claims to enhance equipment protection by combining remote metering and power hardware management capabilities with 28% more wattage than traditional UPSs, it says. Through the software, users can also monitor UPS power usage, efficiency and load, enabling better management of electrical consumption and energy footprint. August 7, 2012 - Factor Power's new Extreme Battery Monitor (XBM) features Split Core Technology, which allows users to install the product without having to take their system offline. Meanwhile, SNMP and wireless functionalities permit users to observe their systems from wherever they are, via laptop or mobile device.
