August 28, 2015 - An agreement between Wataynikaneyap Power, a partnership of 20 Ontario First Nation communities, and FortisOntario and Renewable Energy Systems Canada (RES) was recently signed, stating plans to connect 16 remote First Nations communities that currently rely on diesel power to the electricity grid.

August 4, 2015 - Hydro-Quebec reports that during the night of August 1-2, a diesel spill occurred on the site of the generating station that supplies the community of Ivujivik in Nunavik. Preliminary evaluations indicate that about 10,000 litres were spilled and “quickly confined”.
July 28, 2015 - Hipower Systems a manufacturer of power generation and power distribution equipment in the U.S. and Canada, says it has developed and will be producing a line of “ultra-rugged, low-maintenance” hybrid generators designed to maintain full charge and power continuity for 48vdc battery systems.
July 21, 2015 - The governments of Manitoba, Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Northwest Territories, Yukon, and Ontario are establishing a Pan-Canadian Task Force to reduce the use of diesel fuel to generate electricity in remote communities.
