Renewables
September 2, 2015 - The Government of New Brunswick has posted draft regulations online for a program that aims to help “local entities and aboriginal communities” to develop renewable energy projects.
August 31, 2015 - As wind turbines proliferate, researchers at the University of Kansas are looking at how these “forests of turbines” affect the wind itself: what happens to the wind when a larger number of wind turbines removes increasingly more of the energy of atmospheric motion?
August 13, 2015 - Engineers from the University of Sheffield say they have developed a technique for predicting when bearings inside wind turbines will fail, which could make wind energy cheaper by removing the risk of lost production or unplanned maintenance.
August 10, 2015 - Wind energy pricing in the United States is at an all-time low, according to a new report released by the U.S. Department of Energy and prepared by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab).
August 5, 2015 - Hydropower will remain the dominant power source in Canada’s energy mix over the next decade, with installed capacity forecast to increase from approximately 77.6 gigawatts (GW) in 2014 to an estimated 84.8 GW by 2025, according to research and consulting firm GlobalData.
July 30, 2015 - GE just confirmed it will supply Pattern Development with 61 wind turbines for the 180MW Meikle Wind Project, located about 33 kilometres north of Tumbler Ridge in the Peace Region of British Columbia.
July 28, 2015 - Two British Columbia First Nations on northern Vancouver Island are making plans for future hydro projects thanks to boosts from the First Nations Clean Energy Business Fund.
July 28, 2015 - Congratulations to Schneider Electric Solar Business and ABB Inc. Power & Industrial Systems on receiving the 2014 Award of Excellence for single-site and multi-site management systems from BSI Canada!
July 27, 2015 - Ontario energy company PowerStream says it has acquired a portfolio of projects totaling 2.575MW from JCM Capital.
July 21, 2015 - Hydro-Quebec Distribution has issued a call for tenders for the purchase of wind power integration service for all wind farms under contract. Given the intermittent nature of wind power, this is required in order to balance wind power generation on the transmission grid, in real-time, Hydro-Quebec said.
July 8, 2015 - According to calculations carried out by a European researcher team, wind turbines could be installed under some of the biggest bridges on the road network to produce electricity.
July 8, 2015 - “This is a pivotal accomplishment for Nexans,” said Nexans’ Dirk Steinbrink of a multi-million dollar deal to provide the extra-high-voltage cable connection for the Grand Bend Wind Farm, in conjunction with project partners Black & McDonald, the electrical services contractor, and AMEC Foster Wheeler, an EPC (engineering procurement construction) firm.
June 23, 2015 - Pattern Energy Group Inc. says it has closed the previously announced acquisition of a one-third interest in the 270MW K2 wind facility in Ontario. The company says it will hold a 33% equity interest in the facility, which is equally co-owned by Samsung Renewable Energy and Capital Power LP.
June 19, 2015 - SMA is now taking orders for its newest solution for medium to large-scale PV plants: the Sunny Tripower 60-US. This 60 kW inverter combines the advantages of a decentralized system layout with the benefits of a centralized inverter design, SMA says.
June 10, 2015 - Boralex Inc. says it has officially inaugurated the 22MW Jamie Creek hydroelectric power station in British Columbia.
