October 3, 2017 — Alberta PowerLine, a partnership between Canadian Utilities Ltd. (an ATCO Ltd. company) and Quanta Services Inc., has raised about $1.4 billion of bonds to finance the Fort McMurray West 500-kV Transmission Project.
August 30, 2017 - ABB has been awarded a contract by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority to provide a technology solution that will enable shore power to be supplied to the Global Container Terminal in Delta, B.C. (Deltaport).
August 30, 2017 - Global cable-producer Nexans has commenced with the construction of a new cable-laying vessel for submarine high-voltage cable systems installations.
August 15, 2017 - The Montreal Port Authority’s (MPA) shore power project has been completed, which means vessels docking at the Port of Montreal’s new cruise terminal can be powered by electricity rather than their diesel engines.

June 20, 2017 - Nova Scotia Power is installing a new transmission line between Onslow and Springhill, saying this will “support the addition of more clean, renewable energy for our customers, and increase the reliability of electricity supply along this key corridor”.
May 18, 2017 - The provincial government and NB Power are forming a new corporation as a joint venture to “capitalize on New Brunswick’s geography in exporting energy”, the two parties say.
February 27, 2017 - Demand for electricity in downtown Vancouver is expected to grow by over 75% over the next 30 years, says BC Hydro, which currently operates three substations in the downtown core. Of those, Murrin and Dal Grauer substations are nearing end-of-life and need to be replaced.
February 21, 2017 - Manitoba Hydro says it is moving forward with building two transmission lines after receiving an Environment Act Licence from the province on January 30.
January 17, 2017 - ABB reports it has completed a major upgrade of the 350MW Madawaska high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission link connecting the grids of Quebec and New Brunswick, prompting ABB’s Claudio Facchin to say, “This upgrade will enhance power availability, reduce outages and improve grid reliability in the region”.
