ESA and Toronto Hydro talk backup generator safety
December 20, 2014 | By Anthony Capkun
December 20, 2014 – Toronto Hydro says it has received many enquires about using generators over the past year, which is why it has recently approved the use of meter base plug-in transfer devices. The utility has also teamed up with Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) to share generator safety and information about using these devices (VIDEO).
The transfer device is connected directly to the smart meter and has a plug for the generator, but it must be installed by a licensed electrical contractor. A list of approved devices and a step-by-step process can be found at torontohydro.com/generators.
