Following the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA)’s announcement that it is limiting site visits amid COVID-19, the organization has issued a further update.

Temporary Residential Facilities (TRFs)

New measures have been introduced to allow governments and municipalities to repurpose existing facilities, or build temporary structures, to allow communities to meet their local needs. This document addresses these TRFs and provides a deviation to the requirements of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC) that ensures facilities maintain an acceptable level of electrical safety.

Temporary Emergency Health Care Facility (TEHCF)

The ESA has highlighted major electrical safety requirements when using existing buildings or temporary structures for health care in this document.

Other notices

Following the latest COVID-19 announcements from the Government of Ontario, ESA has also decided to postpone all classroom training courses and Master Electrical Exams that have been scheduled prior to May 31, 2020.

In addition, effective immediately, ESA is waiving all fees charged for work related to the construction of temporary emergency healthcare facilities using existing buildings or structures; and installing wiring for medical equipment to support patients that have been moved from hospital to home care.
