May 1, 2010 – Ferraz Shawmut unveiled its new Surge-Trap Type 1 surge protective device (SPD), which meets the requirements for UL 1449 (3rd ed.). It provides a two-year warranty and offers “an economical replacement” for the former Surge Arrestor category. The SPD offers a range of voltage configurations to meet all needs for indoor NEMA Type 2 applications. Surge-Trap Type 1 SPDs are listed for both UL Type 1 and 2 applications, including service entrances, feeders and branch panels. With features such as visual status indication, the Surge-Trap Type 1 SPD suits system voltages from 120V to 600V and MCOV rated 180V to 550V. It has a 200kA short circuit current rating (SCCR) and 40kA 8/20μs surge capacity rating per mode.
