Fluke Networks announced the availability of a free downloadable network monitoring software utility called the Switch Port Monitor. It provides “visibility into network switches to help IT professionals solve problems common to local area networks,” says the release. The port is Microsoft Windows based and monitors through simple network management protocol (SNMP) to deliver information useful to trouble-shooting. It also delivers information of the port itself such as interface name, speed, status, packet activity, number of errors, current and peak utilization, and user-defined alerts.
