February 22, 2019 | By Peter Saunders

February 22, 2019 – Charles ‘Chuck’ Swoboda, former chair and CEO of lighting and semiconductor manufacturer Cree, has been appointed to the board of directors for Anixter International, a global distributor of electrical, utility power, electronic, network and security products.

During Swoboda’s tenure, Cree grew from a small research and development (R&D) company to a $1.6-billion global manufacturer with multiple divisions. He served as CEO from 2001 and chair from 2005 until 2017, at which point he retired for health reasons.

“Chuck will contribute his deep expertise in the electrical and lighting business,” says Sam Zell, chair of Anixter’s board. “I am confident his perspective will be valuable as we move forward and grow our business.”

Swoboda was appointed to the board concurrently with Bill Simon, former president, CEO and chief operating officer (COO) of Walmart. Both will officially join on Mar. 1, 2019.
