GE Intellix BMT 300 promises to prevent costly transformer failures

July 10, 2013 | By Stephanie Lai

July 10, 2013 – GE says its new Intellix BMT 300, a bushing monitoring system for transformers, can detect unseen problems before they occur, keeping the power on and avoiding costly transformer failures for utilities, industrial metals businesses and petrochemical companies. While bushing failures can be potentially catastrophic in more than half of the cases, the Intellix BMT 300 promises to protect against the cost of the transformer, the loss of revenue during the downtime and the collateral damages and reputational consequences that a transformer failure can create. The system features continuous monitoring for early recognition of developing bushing faults, and condition-based maintenance and replacement of bushings.
