Canadian Hydropower Association rebrands as WaterPower Canada

March 7, 2019 | By Peter Saunders

March 7, 2019 – The Canadian Hydropower Association (CHA) has changed its corporate name to WaterPower Canada (WPC) in an attempt to make its messaging to stakeholders and the public more effective.

Founded in 1998, the national organization will continue to serve the same membership and operated under the same governance structure, with an elected board of directors.

“This new identity will capitalize on the great work accomplished over the past two decades, while also embracing change,” says Anne-Raphaëlle Audouin, WPC’s president. “Our core objective is to be recognized as the country’s main clean electricity asset. Our members provide more than 60% of Canada’s electricity, with the potential to do much more.”

“Waterpower is entrenched in Canada’s history of renewable electricity generation,” adds Mike Martelli, WPC board chair and Ontario Power Generation’s (OPG’s) president of renewable generation, “yet there is an opportunity for it to play a pivotal role in helping Canada reach its clean electrification objectives, thanks to its tremendous storage, resiliency and response attributes.”

The new name is being implemented immediately across the organization’s activities. The annual CHA Forum, for example, will be rebranded as the WaterPower Canada Conference for its next edition, scheduled to take place in September in Montreal.
