June 8, 2016 – It was a bronze medal for Georgian College’s Electrical Engineering Technician and Technology programs as part the 2015-2016 Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) Program Excellence Awards.

“We are grateful to CICan for bestowing Georgian with this honour and for recognizing the outstanding reputation of our Electrical Engineering Technician and Technology programs,” says MaryLynn West-Moynes, president and CEO of Georgian College. “Georgian is proud to offer high-quality programs, co-op experiences, and to have established one-of-a-kind partnerships in the electricity sector that are of great benefit to students and employers.”

According to the college, examples of these partnerships  include PowerStream, Toronto Hydro, KUKA Robotics, Ford Motor Company of Canada, Honda of Canada Manufacturing, and Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories.

“Each of our partnerships is comprehensive, helps to ensure current technologies are embedded in our curriculum and classrooms, and provides ample opportunities for students and graduates to meet and learn from prospective future employers,” says Kevin Weaver, dean of technology and visual arts. “These partnerships have also led to increased applied research activity and infrastructure for electric vehicle, distribution and smart grid activity.”

Each year, Georgian says its electrical engineering programs are filled to capacity and in 2014-2015, 190 employers provided 570 work terms to students in the programs.

The school, based in Barrie, Ont., was recognized as part of CICan’s annual conference in Quebec City.
