February 14, 2013 – GE and Google have partnered to integrate Google Maps data into GE’s Smallworld electrical, telecommunications and gas applications, which they say will help utilities increase productivity by visualizing and analyzing data on the field with GE’s Smallworld product suite. By enhancing the ability to visualize data on a map, utility customers will be able to quickly provide their end-use customers with information, such as outage restoration times, and will be able to more efficiently manage their network assets, says GE. Its Distribution Management Systems and Outage Management Systems also will utilize Google’s mapping content for operational control of electricity networks.
