Harvest Power Energy Garden site marks official opening

September 13, 2013 | By Anthony Capkun

September 12, 2013 – Today marked the official opening of the Harvest Power Energy Garden site—a clean-energy project in British Columbia.

The federal government provided $4 million through the Clean Energy Fund to B.C.-based Harvest Power to develop and demonstrate what it calls Canada’s first high-efficiency system for producing renewable energy from food and yard waste.

The objective is to extract energy in the form of electricity and heat, or purified methane from organic waste. The purified methane is used to generate electricity, and can be fed into the local natural gas system. The facility began producing electricity in March 2013.
