Health and safety PAYS! WSIB reveals Business H&S Leadership Award recipients (2022)

February 8, 2023 – During its Small Business Health & Safety Forum, Ontario’s WSIB announced the winners of its 2022 Business Health & Safety Leadership Awards. Congratulations to the following:

GOLD ($10,000 award) – JUST WORKING CONSTRUCTION

Based in the Waterloo region, Just Working Construction Inc. provides newcomers to Canada employment so they can “re-learn the trades”. To build health & safety into their business culture, the team started to have daily, weekly and monthly health & safety meetings. New policies and procedures are translated to ensure understanding.

SILVER ($6000 award) – NORTHERN EQUIPMENT RENTALS

Northern Equipment Rentals has been a fixture in equipment and crane rentals in Sudbury for more than 40 years. To boost employee engagement, they formalized health & safety communications, enabling employees to document maintenance needs, post photos of hazards, and write daily messages of encouragement.

BRONZE ($4000 award) – DIAMOND TREE CARE AND CONSULTATION

Located in Georgetown, the multi-generational, family owned business made a commitment to reinvigorate its health & safety systems. Taking into consideration employee feedback, Diamond improved its existing programs and implemented new ones, and committed to achieving COR 2020 certification.

Now in its 5th consecutive year, WSIB’s Business Health & Safety Leadership Awards recognize the health & safety achievements of independently owned and operated businesses with fewer than 50 employees.
