Hilti unveils AG 500-A18 cordless cut-off tool

March 8, 2013 | By Anthony Capkun

March 8, 2013 – Saying it’s the world’s first cordless cut-off tool with a brushless motor, the Hilti AG 500-A18 promises metal-cutting performance comparable to corded tools (SEE video below). The 18V tool can cut or grind just about any type of metal, says Hilti, including strut, cast iron pipe, steel, stainless steel, steel angle iron, flat steel, I-beam, conduit, rebar, threaded rod, decking, grading and checker plate. The sealed electronics help ensure longer tool life by keeping out debris. The AG 500-A18 is also equipped with a keyless quick-change flange, making it easier to swap abrasive discs, and an electronic brake that stops the blade within one second. The tool comes with 25 thin cut-off blades (5-in. diameter), which should decrease the number of blade changes.
