March 3, 2022 – Coinciding with its one-year anniversary in July 2021, Hitachi ABB Power Grids announced it would change its name and corporate brand—which it did, in October 2021.

“The energy landscape continues to evolve, and so do we. With our new name—Hitachi Energy—we are broadening our commitment to creating further value for customers, our employees and society,” said Claudio Facchin, CEO, adding the goal is to be “the partner of choice for enabling a stronger, smarter and greener energy system.”

A company spokesperson says the company is still a joint venture: Hitachi Ltd. has an 80.1% stake in the business, while ABB Ltd. holds the balance.

“By 2050, global electrification will near‐double in demand, and electricity will be the backbone of the entire energy system,” Facchin continued. “At Hitachi Energy, we have pioneered many of the technologies needed for advancing a sustainable energy future for all […].”

Tomorrow’s carbon-neutral energy system, says Hitachi Energy, “will be highly interconnected and HVDC”.

“A technology we have pioneered over 60 years ago is one of the key enablers for bulk renewable energy resources integration and reliable interconnection across countries, regions and continents.”

Hitachi Energy says it is also supporting customers with grid edge solutions, such as microgrids and energy storage, as well as “advanced digital solutions and services to prevent critical asset failures while optimizing asset life cycle costs”.
