Hydro-Quebec Distribution receives 7 bids for 500 MW of power
May 22, 2015 By Renée Francoeur
May 22, 2015 – Hydro-Quebec Distribution recently marked its public bid opening for the purchase of 500 MW of firm capacity and associated energy. It received seven bids totaling 830 MW.
The opening is for the bids received in response to the company’s A/O 2015-01 call for tenders, launched on March 4, 2015.
The electricity, which Hydro-Quebec Distribution will buy, must be available for a minimum of 300 hours, mainly in winter months to meet high demand. The contracts will be over a 20-year period, starting on the date the deliveries begin.
The power must be available and guaranteed as of December 1, 2018, said Hydro-Quebec. However, a bidder could have submitted a proposal with deliveries starting after this date, by December 1, 2019 at the latest.
Hydro-Quebec said it will evaluate the bids and then announce which bids have been accepted “as soon as possible.” Once signed, the contracts must be approved by the Régie de l’énergie.
Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton will assist in the tendering process and act as Hydro-Quebec’s official representative.
