September 30, 2016 – The IESO and PowerStream have announced they will be working together on a grid/LDC (local distribution company) “coordination project”.

According to the IESO, this study will aim to:

• Explore how to enhance reliability and efficiency through coordination of IESO- and LDC-controlled resources,
• Study the feasibility for increased adoption of residential solar storage type technologies within the LDC sector by using PowerStream’s PowerHouse initiative (a “virtual power plant” that manages solar storage in Vaughan, Ont.) as a test case, and
• Have a better understanding the grid integration and operability impacts from increased adoption of systems like PowerHouse within the distribution sector.

The IESO says more information will be shared as the project progresses.
