February 12, 2019 – AD, a member-owned buying and marketing group for electrical supplies and other products, has announced plans to merge with IDI, a co-operative network of Canadian distributors of industrial supplies, power transmission devices, bearing products, fluid power and safety products, effective Apr. 1. The transaction will create a new brand, ‘AD Canada Industrial & Safety.’
February 8, 2018 – On Feb. 1, Electro-Federation Canada’s (EFC’s) 11th annual Ontario Region Gala drew record attendance to the Marriott Toronto Airport Hotel. The event nearly sold out, with well over 300 electrical industry professionals and their guests, including EFC national members visiting from as far away as Nova Scotia.
February 6, 2019 - In a sign of changing times, Shell New Energies—a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell, known primarily for petrochemicals—has signed a deal to acquire Greenlots, which develops electric vehicle (EV) charging and energy management software and systems.
January 31, 2019 – North American Pipe, a Westlake Chemical company, and Royal Pipe and Fittings have introduced a new brand name and website. From now on, the two PVC pipe and fittings companies will operate under a single brand: NAPCO.
January 30, 2019 – Ascot Capital Group, the parent company of Standard and Stanpro, has decided to merge the two businesses, creating one of the largest lighting companies in Canada.
January 28, 2019 – Private equity firm CBPE Capital has acquired majority ownership of Ideal Networks—which provides handheld testers for data cable and network installers (examples pictured)—from its parent company, Ideal Industries. The sale was completed on Dec. 20, 2018.
January 24, 2019 – Effective Feb. 1, Electro-Federation Canada (EFC)—a national industry association for companies that manufacture, distribute, market and sell electrical products—will be moving into a new office space.
January 3, 2019 – Robertson Electric Wholesale, headquartered in Vaughan, Ont., plans to open its first Alberta branch this March in Edmonton, starting with a focus on lighting and associated products before adding wire and cable offerings.
January 2, 2019 – Over the course of 2018, electrical device manufacturer Legrand acquired Netatmo and Debflex in France, Shenzhen Clever Electronic in China, Modulan in Germany, GemNet in the U.A.E. and, most recently, Kenall in the U.S. and Trical in New Zealand.
December 19, 2018 – Delta Transformers has appointed DAD Sales its exclusive manufacturer’s representative for Alberta, with the deal coming into effect on Jan. 1, 2019.
December 12, 2018 - Northern Transformer, which designs, engineers and manufactures liquid-filled transformers in Maple, Ont., has sold a minority stake to Southern States Investment Holding (SSIH). Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
December 4, 2018 – Halifax-based Next Sales and Marketing has signed on to represent manufacturer and supplier Britech’s electric radiant heating cable systems throughout Atlantic Canada.
November 27, 2018 – O’Neil Electric Supply has selected Siemens Canada as its new power distribution equipment partner to serve electrical contractors in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and across Southern Ontario.
