December 19, 2012 - The 2007 National Apprenticeship Survey (NAS) is the third survey to collect detailed information on apprentices in Canada, and focuses on the experiences of apprentices before, during and after their training. In September 2012, the remaining five studies based on the NAS were made available.

December 19, 2012 - Caterpillar says it will develop a turnkey power plant utilizing 10 Cat G16CM34 natural gas gensets for Alberta Newsprint Co. (ANC) in Whitecourt. The gensets will provide the company with 65MW of total output capacity, making it Caterpillar’s largest power plant installation in Canada.

December 18, 2012 - To address “an unprecedented severe skilled labour shortage facing the renewable electricity industry”, Electricity Human Resources Canada (EHRC)—formerly Electricity Sector Council (ESC)—is working with industry to develop a set of strategies for “recruiting and retaining the most important asset to any organization”: its skilled workers. According to EHRC, timely HR best practices and a “solid understanding of labour market conditions can make a big impact on a company’s bottom line well into the future”.
December 18, 2012 - Shermco Industries Inc.—a provider of testing, maintenance, repair, engineering, training and commissioning services for low-, medium- and high-voltage electrical equipment, motors and generators—has been acquired by funds managed by the GFI Energy Group of Oaktree Capital Management LP. Oaktree acquired Shermco in partnership with its existing management team, which will continue to serve in the same capacity.
December 17, 2012 - According to CABLExpress’ 2012 Data Centre Executive Survey, IT executives are most concerned with business continuance, disaster recovery and maximizing uptime (44%), as they look to designing their next-generation data centre infrastructure.
