October 24, 2016 - Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) opened a “state-of-the-art” nuclear research facility at the Chalk River Laboratories last week. The new building is named after Harriet Brooks, Canada’s first female nuclear physicist and was inaugurated as Canada celebrates Women’s History Month.
September 28, 2016 - The Ontario Energy Association (OEA) 2016 Excellence Award for Company of the Year went to Hydro Ottawa. The award acknowledges a company that has “raised the bar for best practices in Ontario's electricity sector, recognizing a variety of business areas, including financial operations, customer service, environmental practices and technology.”
September 27, 2016 - The electric vehicle bandwagon is nothing new to PowerStream. The Ontario energy company has been championing the technology since 2011, when it purchased two Nissan LEAFs, making it “the first organization in Canada to include electric vehicles in its fleet”. In honour of this EV leadership, the utility was recently awarded the inaugural Tom Mitchell Electric Vehicle Leadership Award, presented at the Canadian Electricity Association’s (CEA) annual Canadian Electric Vehicle Dealership Awards.
September 27, 2016 - Accessing reasonably priced electricity remains a challenge for over 200,000 individuals—mainly Aboriginal—living in Canada’s nearly 300 remote communities, reads a new Conference Board of Canada report, noting their electricity prices can be as much as nine times higher than the Canadian average.
September 26, 2016 - The electric vehicle charging network in B.C. has reached a milestone with the completion of a BC Hydro pilot project to install 30 direct current (DC) fast charging stations throughout the province. Construction of the last station, located in Vernon, was completed this month.
