Jake Dyson Lighting joins larger Dyson family

April 16, 2015 | By Anthony Capkun

(UPDATED April 16 with more photos) April 15, 2015 – Dyson currently has four main areas of technology—cordless and full-size vacuum cleaners, environmental control machines and Dyson Airblade hand dryers—but it has added lighting as its 5th product category with the addition of Jake Dyson Lighting.

First with his CSYS LED task light—and soon with the suspended Ariel LED light—Jake Dyson claims to have developed core lighting technology to overcome the problems presented by current LEDs: specifically, heat. Jake developed a heat pipe technology in which the heat created by the LEDs flows away from the chip. The LED bulb is engineered to last more than 35 years. “Our cooling technology sits at the core, and means we’re able to use a high-density, high-powered LED light source which our competitors can’t,” boasted Jake Dyson. The Ariel light is a ceiling-mounted downlight suitable for office desks, boardroom tables or kitchen islands.
