The carbon-fiber toes are 15% lighter than steel, adds Keen, and promise “a more unobtrusive fit”. The shoe also incorporates a flexible, non-metallic puncture-resistant midsole plate, making it lighter and metal detector-friendly.

The CSA Vista Energy series is constructed with a non-marring, two-layer mesh upper to increase breathability and air flow within the shoe. An oil- and slip-resistant outsole with water-diverting channels maximizes surface area contact, says Keen, and improves traction to reduce the risk of slips and falls.
