June 19, 2019 – Halifax-based LED Roadway Lighting (LRL) has won the Michelin Innovation in Manufacturing Award for its Data Acquisition Platform (DAP) sensor-based lighting controller.

Formerly known as the Tool-less Sensor Platform (TSP), DAP is designed to integrate ‘smart city’ sensors into an overall lighting infrastructure, allowing users to measure traffic counts, map speeds, analyze traffic flow, detect pollution and noises and track emergency vehicle alerts. The company’s LED street lights—which have been manufactured in nearby Amherst, N.S., since 2008—can be controlled in response to changing conditions.

The award was presented on May 30 at the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) annual general meeting (AGM) and conference in Dartmouth, N.S. DAP was previously recognized by the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) through its Illuminating Society Progress Awards.
