Mersen hits Global Surge Protection milestone with Surge-Trap line
March 21, 2016 | By Anthony Capkun
March 21, 2016 – Marking it as “another key milestone for its recently formed global surge protection organization,” Mersen today launched the Surge-Trap product line for North America.
The global surge protection organization is part of the strategy to expand the presence of Mersen’s electrical segment in the overvoltage protection market, says the company, adding that (until now) it was primarily a component supplier of thermally protected metal oxide varistor (TPMOV) technology.
Its first product launch in North America is the Surge-Trap NEMA Type 1 surge protective device series, comprising six products. Available immediately, all are NEMA devices for ANSI/UL 1449 Type 1 and 2 applications, indoor and outdoor use, and provide UL96A lightning protection. Mersen says is has designed a cataloguing system and “partner portal” to help its partners compare features and find the right product for customers.
“With this new range of products, Mersen has transformed its business model in the UL/CSA markets to provide complete solutions, and strengthened our position as a leader in electrical safety at all industry levels,” said Mersen’s Gabriel Ledru.
