Michael Gentile to retire as Canadian president and CEO of Signify

October 31, 2018 | By Peter Saunders

October 31, 2018 – Michael Gentile, president and CEO of Signify (formerly Philips Lighting), will retire at the end of 2018, after 14 years with the company.

Gentile spent more than 38 years in the Canadian electrical industry, was one of the founding members of the Building Energy Innovators Council (BEIC) and held board positions with Electro-Federation Canada (EFC). With Signify, he led the unification of five separate operating companies into a single sales organization with a broad product portfolio, along with a shift from conventional illumination to LEDs and connected lighting.

Gentile’s successor, David H. Grinstead, was previously vice-president (VP) and general manager (GM) of Johnson Controls. He will join Signify on Nov. 5, at which point both executives will work together to ensure a smooth transition at the company’s Canadian headquarters (HQ) in Markham, Ont.
