Microgrids, IoT, Lighting, Digitalization – EBPowerCon has it all

February 7, 2022 | By Anthony Capkun

February 7, 2022 – EBPowerCon Extravaganza Day #2 is FEBRUARY 14, and we are really excited to present sessions on the following:

Lighting Quality: Getting Back to Basics – Our attention is often easily seized by the latest “shiny thing” which, in the world of lighting, happens quite regularly. But it bears remembering—and reviewing—the fundamentals of what makes a lighting scheme GOOD. Linda Conejo of Ledvance will us through the fundamental tenets of lighting.

Managing Construction Risk with IoT – The burgeoning sector of Internet of Things or IoT sensors and devices—supported by “the cloud” and analytics—aims to address at least some of the risks inherent in constructing our built environment. Brickeye’s Hamid Alemohammad provides an overview of IoT in construction sites, and focuses on risk mitigation solutions.

Pre-Construction Technology Journey to Success – Pre-construction costs typically range between 1% and 3% of the total project value, yet poor planning and implementation can affect the outcome of a project well before you even set foot onsite. Procore’s Aaron Lober joins EBPowerCon to discuss the application of technology to pre-construction and estimation.

Building a Microgrid in Northern Ontario – Gull Bay First Nation is a remote, non-grid-connected community that has been dependent on diesel fuel since the 1960s. Today, however, the community is home to Canada’s first fully integrated remote renewable energy storage microgrid, which significantly curtails the community’s reliance on diesel. Hear from Kevin Ritzmann and Tony Murphy of Alltrade Industrial, which served as the Engineer, Procure, Construct (EPC) contractor for this unique project.

While we can’t offer you a coffee and pastries during Break, our sponsor partners are available to meet with you and discuss the latest solutions that will help you Level Up your work and your business.

A huge THANK YOU to Gold Sponsor SurgePure, Registration Sponsor Procore, and Silver Sponsors ABB and Ledvance.

EBPowerCon is OPEN 24/7 from January 31 to February 28, giving everyone ample opportunity to check out the Sessions and our Valued Supporters, including all the sessions that launched on January 31.

• Panel discussion “Net Zero for the Rest of Us” featuring Bolis Ibrahim, co-founder and CEO of Argentum Electronics Inc.; Tonja Leach, executive director of QUEST (Quality Urban Energy Systems of Tomorrow); and Gregory Leng, creator and director of the RETScreen Clean Energy Management Software at NRCan’s CanmetENERGY research centre in Varennes.

• Drawing on his decades of experience, subject matter expert Allan Bozek, P.Eng., joins EBPowerCon 2022 to review both well-known and lesser-known hazardous locations, including cannabis processing facilities, food & beverage, manufacturing, hydrogen, and water treatment facilities.

• Head of Future Energy Analytics with S&P Global Platts Analytics, Roman Kramarchuk, will provide a thought-provoking “Reality Check: Battery Metals and the Challenges of Electrifying Transport”.

• John F. Wiesel and Dan Beresford—authors behind the popular column “Estimating 101” in Electrical Business Magazine—will share their estimating top tip & tricks, and discuss common pitfalls, with the aim of helping you “level up” as an estimator.

Launched by Electrical Business Magazine, EBPowerCon engages with subject matter experts—one-on-one and via panel discussion—to shed light on trends and technologies so as to empower our professional electrical community of contractors, engineers, maintenance, and related stakeholders with knowledge and insight into markets and opportunities.
