Mike Doherty joins Shermco Canada in Learning and Continual Improvement

March 23, 2015 – Mike Doherty—EBMag’s “Electrical Safety 360” columnist—has joined Shermco Canada as director of Learning and Continual Improvement.

Doherty has more than 40 years of industrial and electrical utility experience as a licensed electrician, instrumentation technician, control technician, electrical skills instructor at Ontario Hydro, electrical utility safety department professional and electrical safety trainer.

He most recently served as the health & safety manager and consultant with PowerTel Utilities Contractors Ltd.

Doherty has served as the technical committee chair of CSA Z462 “Workplace electrical safety” since its inception, and is a member of the NFPA 70E technical committee as the official liaison between Canada (CSA) and the States (NFPA) for electrical safety.
 
Mike was the 2013 recipient of the IEEE IAS Petroleum and Chemical Industry Committee (PCIC) Electrical Safety Excellence Award in Chicago, Ill. He is an IEEE senior member, PCIC Emeritus, a voting member of IEEE 1584, and is the IEEE IAS Electrical Safety Committee Construction Subcommittee chair. He is an associate member of CSA Group’s Strategic Steering Committee on Occupational H&S, and a co-teacher in the online Professional Studies section of the University of Alabama/Birmingham’s (UAB) certificate program “Introduction to Electrical Safety Management”.
