Eaton presents 2016 FlashGard arc-resistant Motor Control Centre design

September 2, 2016 | By Renée Francoeur

September 2, 2016 – Eaton now has an arc-resistant version of its FlashGard motor control centre (MCC) technology that it says is designed to prevent an arc flash event plus protect personnel if an arc flash occurs. Eaton claims it is the first manufacturer to combine arc-preventative and arc-resistant technology within a single motor control centre.

The company notes its patented FlashGard design allows units to be disconnected and reconnected to the vertical bus with the unit door closed; maintaining a dead-front barrier during maintenance operations. The solution also incorporates Eaton’s RotoTrack racking mechanism, which provides bus isolation, stab indication and lockout features.

Eaton says this MCC is tested and verified by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) guideline C37.20.7 and Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standard C22.2 No. 0.22-11. It is also Underwriters Laboratory (UL) UL845 approved.

The solution is available for three-phase, 230V applications up to 300 hp, or three-phase, 480V applications up to 600 hp.
