NB Power deploying Itron’s AMI solution across service territory
November 11, 2020 | By Anthony Capkun
November 11, 2020 – NB Power will deploy Itron Inc.’s advanced metering infrastructure solution—including an IoT network and more than 350,000 Measurement Canada-approved distributed intelligence-enabled smart meters—to modernize its electricity grid.
“Smart meters are essential to building a smarter, cleaner, more reliable and efficient power grid, and will bring important benefits to all New Brunswickers,” said NB Power’s Lori Clark. “As we move forward with this investment, we will do so with our customers’ expectations in mind.”
The project, according to Itron, is a part of NB Power’s overarching smart grid program, which aims to create a “modern grid that is smarter, cleaner, more resilient and efficient”. NB Power received regulatory approval of the project, and work is slated to begin later this year.
Itron says its AMI solution will enable NB Power to implement distributed intelligence-enabled applications to optimize grid performance, increase reliability and automate billing. NB Power will also be able to analyze data in real time to proactively manage risk, minimize outages and respond to rapidly changing grid conditions.
