March 23, 2012 | By Alyssa Dalton

March 22, 2012 – Nexans, a worldwide player in the cable industry, will locate its new high-voltage power cable manufacturing plant in Berkeley County, S.C. With an initial investment of $85 million USD, the facility will begin operation in 2014 and is expected to create up to 200 new jobs.

The Nexans manufacturing facility will be built on a new site in Berkeley County. In its initial phase, it will focus on the manufacture of underground land cables up to extra-high-voltage cables of 500 kV.

“Establishing our Berkeley plant is a key strategic development that will enable Nexans to capitalize on the ever growing demand for high-quality HV cables designed and manufactured to meet the specific needs of the major power transmission infrastructure projects in North America and worldwide in the coming years,” said Dirk Steinbrink, executive vice president, High Voltage & Underwater Cables Business Group, Nexans.

The company hopes the Berkeley plant will reinforce Nexans’ current product range in North America, adding to the existing medium-voltage, low-voltage, overhead transmission, industrial, building wire, electrical wire and LAN portfolios.
