June 20, 2017 – Nova Scotia Power is installing a new transmission line between Onslow and Springhill, saying this will “support the addition of more clean, renewable energy for our customers, and increase the reliability of electricity supply along this key corridor”.

“This new line will enhance connections with our utility partner in New Brunswick and reduce the risk of unplanned outages for customers from Onslow to Springhill,” said the Nova Scotia Power’s Paul Casey.

The new line will facilitate future opportunities for new renewable generation sources including, but not limited to, hydro imported via the Maritime Link, says the utility, adding it is on track to achieve its requirement of generating electricity from 40% renewable energy sources by 2020.

Work to clear the right-of-way along the 65-km stretch is complete, and crews are beginning the process of setting 674 poles to form 320 new pole structures required to complete the line. It’s expected pole and line installation will continue until May 2018.
