Ontario Solar Manufacturing Corp (OSM)
, in partnership with Symphony Energy of Korea, has established a solar panel manufacturing plant in Welland–said to create up to 60 new jobs within the year. In addition to producing the 230W-solar panels at the Welland location, OSM also plans to design and build solar rooftop and ground mount systems.

In 2010, Ontario provided funding through the Communities in Transition Program to help Welland conduct a Green Energy Development Strategy, which identified green energy opportunities with the potential to generate revenues of $93 million and 72 jobs.

The province also recently announced the approval of 40 new large-scale renewable energy projects including solar, wind and water that will create 7000 direct and indirect jobs and attract $3 billion in private sector investment.
