Goodbye IEEE Color Books – Hello IEEE 3000 Standards Collection

June 20, 2012 | By Anthony Capkun

June 20, 2012 – IEEE launched the 3000 Standards Collection for Industrial and Commercial Power Systems, which sets guidelines and establishes standards, says IEEE, “for virtually every aspect of the power generation process”. The new collection will update and eventually replace the IEEE Color Books and make it easier, insists IEEE, for power engineers to find the most up-to-date best practices and solutions for virtually any power system venue or application. The IEEE 3000 Standards Collection splits up the 13 Color Books into smaller, more narrowly focused technical standards, says IEEE. Each standard within the collection is made up of a large number of ‘dot’ standards (about 70) that focus on a specific technical topic. Because these standards will be shorter and more narrowly focused, the revision, balloting and approval process will be more timely and efficient than in the past, says IEEE.
