May 12, 2017 – The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) in the U.S. has published NEMA ICS 5-2017 Industrial Control and Systems: Control Circuit and Pilot Devices. This standard applies to general purpose mechanical, electromechanical and solid-state devices that are used in industrial applications for control circuit switching and the control of solenoids rated not more than 600V.

Revisions to this standard include a new Annex F, which features high-pressure wash requirements.

“The updates to ICS 5 reflect a comprehensive review to ensure requirements in NEMA ICS 5 remain relevant to today’s products and technologies,” said Dan Nachtigall, global technical leader/product compliance engineering, Rockwell Automation, and chair of the SC31 Technical Subcommittee. “In addition, Annex F now recognizes additional high-pressure wash requirements defined in IEC 60529, which will be very important to the food and beverage process industry.”

NEMA ICS 5-2017 is available in hard copy for $215US or as an electronic download at no cost on the NEMA website.
