December 13, 2017 — Schneider Electric has committed to sourcing 100% renewable electricity and is doubling its energy productivity, the company syas.

Schneider Electric has joined two global initiatives led by The Climate Group. One initiative is RE100: to use 100% renewable electricity by 2030 with an intermediary objective of 80% by 2020. The other initiative is EP100: to double energy productivity by 2030, against a 2005 baseline, setting a target to double the economic output from every unit of energy consumed.

The company says these commitments will cover more than 1,000 electricity-consuming sites around the world, including 200 factories.

The transition to 100% renewable electricity will be driven through three levers, says Schneider Electric:

•    On-site renewable energy projects at Schneider Electric facilities around the world
•    Offsite long-term procurement through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)
•    Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs) and green tariffs: Schneider Electric will use EACs as a way to acquire and track renewable electricity
