OEL Kingston prepares City Park for the holidays

November 17, 2011 | By Alyssa Dalton

November 17, 2011 – Last Saturday, members of the Ontario Electrical League (OEL) Kingston went to City Park to help prepare for the upcoming Jingle Bell Walk and park tree-lighting on December 2. Every year, local electrical contractors, Kingston Utilities employees and other partners in the community take time to repair and replace old Christmas lights that are strung in more than 40 trees in the park.

According to organizers, more than 40 people came out to work this year, along with some family members who were taking advantage of the nice weather. There were 20 lift trucks and elevated platform lifts getting the lights up into the trees, and people on the ground to help sort out the new lights and clean up the old lights that had to be taken down and disposed of.

“Over the past few years, we have been gradually replacing older traditional Christmas lights with new LED lights, and this year we were able to complete that initiative,” said Jason Thompson of Thompson Electric in Kingston. “I would like to thank all of our volunteers and sponsors. We rely on everyone’s support and efforts to make the event happen each year, and without their help, it would not be possible.”
