Oncor Jim Greer lands IEEE PES Leadership in Power Award

August 17, 2010 | By Anthony Capkun

Oncor senior VP of Asset Management and Engineering, Jim Greer, has received the IEEE Power & Energy Society’s (PES’) Leadership in Power Award. “This is a great honour, but it does seem odd I should be recognized for having the time of my life,” said Greer.

Greer was chosen as the 2010 award recipient based on testimonials from
industry members about his accomplishments and promotion of the
engineering profession and support of practitioners. Greer also said,
“This is truly a team award: a great recognition of all the wonderful
work Oncor is doing. That starts with strong support from Bob Shapard
and the Oncor board, who are laser-focused on meeting the challenges our
industry faces. And, most importantly, we have hugely dedicated and
energized employees who come to work every day excited about where the
industry and Oncor are headed, and ready to make a difference.”

Greer accepted the award at the society’s annual meeting and awards
ceremony in Minneapolis, Minn. This award was established in 2007 to
“recognize industry leaders for exceptional contributions to the
promotion of the electric power engineering profession” and their impact
on society, while highlighting “actions which have encouraged the
development and growth of electric power engineering practitioners.”

Greer is responsible for developing strategies, policies and plans that
lead to optimization of value and performance in electric delivery
systems and related assets. His organization oversees all asset
investment strategy, performance management, strategic sourcing, system
planning, engineering standards, information technology and technology
strategy activities to ensure a strategic fit with corporate objectives.
